Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) language processing tools such as the Chat Generative PreTrained Transformer (Chat GPT) have recently begun gaining popularity. The functionality ranges from answering a question to writing essays. These AI language processing tools are adaptive with the ability to admit when they are wrong, as well as answer follow-up questions. For the teaching of Chemistry, it is important to understand students’ perceptions and usage of such a technology, as we continue to integrate technology and chemistry education, particularly a technology with such language processing power. In this study, a survey was sent out to introductory chemistry students and upper level chemistry students. This talk will go over students’ perceptions of their familiarity, skepticism, and usage of AI language processing tools.
